Kevin Durant made another appearance this week on Bill Simmons’ podcast.
He talked a lot about “King Hoopers” and who his first five might be.
Over the course of conversation, the rules were made clearer – if you didn’t play in 50 games, you were out.
This excluded obvious choices like Curry, Leonard, and Cousins.
With so many guards having career years, and Durant, LeBron, Anthony Davis, and James Harden locks to make it, “Who’s your fifth?” is becoming a pretty good topic for discussion.
With the NBA regular season fast coming to a close, we’ve selected 14 players that have first-team potential.
Who you got? Check out our gallery of nominees and let us know what you think in the comments.

The rules are simple, you have to play over 50 games to be on this list. (removing Steph, Kwahi, and Boogie from consideration) The first four, AD, Bron, KD, and Harden are mortal locks for first team NBA honors, right? But with so many guards having career years, the choice for the last slot isn't so obvious. Who you got?
Michael Beasley - NYK
Loading Card 1 of 14
We know, he only plays 22 mins per game, but his 48 mins scoring average is 28.2. Someone has to give the man credit for being a scoring machine. As hard as it is to believe, this 2008 first round pick is only 29 years old. But, could he play the 2?
Lou Williams - LAC
Loading Card 2 of 14
Lou Williams is the second most efficient shooting guard in the NBA per 48, behind only Devin Booker, averaging 33.3 points. Lou can fill it up, fast.
Kemba Walker - Charlotte Hornets
Loading Card 3 of 14
At 34.7 per 48, Kemba is the truth. Not a chance at first-team honors, but imagine if he were 6'4. Scary.
Victor Oladipo - Indiana Pacers
Loading Card 4 of 14
32.6 scoring per 48 mins is truly a breakout season for Oladipo.
Donovan Mitchell - Utah Jazz
Loading Card 5 of 14
The only rookie on this list, he's stepped in and saved the Jazz season. Almost 30 point per 48, this kid is the future in Utah.
Chris Paul - Houston Rockets
Loading Card 6 of 14
His minutes are way down this season on the team with the best regular season record, but this 2005 draft pick out of Wake Forest is averaging 28.1 points over 48 mins.
CJ McCollum - Portland Trailblazers
Loading Card 7 of 14
At 28.9 per 48 it's hard to not count CJ as a King Hooper, but first team NBA? Not this year, but is there an argument that he's part of one of the 3 best backcourts in the NBA? Yep.
Devin Booker - Phoenix Suns
Loading Card 8 of 14
34.6 per 48 mins, but on a horror show of a team.
Paul George - OKC Thunder
Loading Card 9 of 14
The
#10
pick of the 2010 draft (Indiana) he's averaging 28.3 per 48 and shoots 40% from long range. Technically a SF, you could surely play him at the 2.
Damian Lillard - Portland Trailblazers
Loading Card 10 of 14
At 34.9 per 48 mins, this RipCity guard is a scoring machine and nearly unstoppable. First-team honors should come someday soon as well as MVP consideration.
DeMar DeRozan - Toronto Raptors
Loading Card 11 of 14
He is scoring 33 points per 48 mins. Watch him play. There's really no one like him in the NBA.
Giannis Antetokounmpo - Milwaukee Bucks
Loading Card 12 of 14
35.4 points per 48 mins, and yes, he can also count as a guard.
Russell Westbrook - OKC Thunder
Loading Card 13 of 14
33.6 per 48 mins is pure Russ
Kyrie Irving - Boston Celtics
Loading Card 14 of 14
He's scoring 36.8 per 48 mins on the team with the second best record in the East and is in possession of unheard of handles.
